Walk & Talk Therapy
Because sometimes the best conversations happen side by side.
At Blue Star Counseling, Kathryn offers walk and talk therapy as an alternative to traditional in-office sessions. These walking therapy sessions combine the benefits of movement, fresh air, and a calming natural environment with the support of a licensed therapist.
Whether you’re a teen who struggles with face-to-face conversations or an adult who feels more grounded in motion, walk therapy can create space for reflection, regulation, and authentic connection.
What Is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and talk therapy is exactly what it sounds like: instead of sitting in a traditional office, we walk side-by-side in a quiet outdoor setting while engaging in talk therapy.
This approach is ideal for clients who feel more comfortable moving than sitting—or who find that being outdoors helps them open up more freely.
Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy
Many clients find that walk and talk therapy:
- Reduces the pressure of eye contact or sitting still
- Enhances emotional regulation through physical movement
- Creates a relaxed, informal environment for processing
- Boosts mood and lowers anxiety with time in nature
- Supports deeper thinking and creativity
These walking therapy sessions are especially beneficial for clients who feel “stuck” in a traditional therapy format or who need a more embodied way to work through stress, transitions, or emotional challenges.
Who It's For
Walk therapy is available for:
- Teens who find it hard to talk in a formal setting
- Young adults or adults experiencing anxiety, stress, or life transitions
- Clients who benefit from sensory regulation or movement while processing
- Anyone who simply feels more at ease outdoors
This format is also a great complement to other services such as Neurodivergent Therapy or Brainspotting, especially for clients who need a lower-stimulation setting.
Logistics & Comfort
Sessions typically take place on a local, accessible walking path in Castle Rock close to our office. Walks are slow-paced and adjusted to meet each client’s physical comfort and privacy needs. In bad weather, we’ll switch to a cozy indoor session or reschedule based on your preference.
You’re always in control—walk, pause, sit, or shift to traditional therapy at any time.
Is Walk and Talk Therapy Right for My Child?
