Parenting Support

Because parenting isn't about perfection—it's about connection

At Blue Star Counseling, Kathryn works alongside caregivers to help make sense of your child’s behaviors and build strong, secure relationships that last. Whether you’re parenting a child with trauma, anxiety, big baffling behaviors, or neurodivergent traits, our work starts with compassion, not judgment.

Through attachment-based parenting support, Kathryn helps you shift from “What’s wrong with my child?” to “What does my child need—and how can I help meet that need while staying regulated myself?”

What Kind of Parenting Support Do I Offer?

Parenting is hard—but you’re not supposed to do it alone. Kathryn has over 25 years of experience supporting parents, and offers one-on-one parent coaching as well as small group education based on today’s most respected attachment and regulation models, including:

I’m currently training under Robyn Gobbel’s Being With™ immersive program, which equips professionals to guide parents through trauma-informed, relational approaches to caregiving. You’ll learn how to stay present with your child during their hardest moments—without resorting to control or disconnection.

Certified as a Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator, I help caregivers understand their child’s emotional needs and how to respond in ways that build secure attachment. This model is ideal for parents of young children but also highly applicable for teens navigating independence and connection.

As a certified TBRI® Parent Practitioner and Educator, I teach practical tools for connecting, empowering, and correcting—especially helpful for adoptive or foster parents and caregivers of children with trauma histories.

Who Is This For?

  • Parents of children or teens with frequent meltdowns, anxiety, or defiance
  • Caregivers feeling exhausted, stuck, or unsure how to help
  • Parents navigating adoption, foster care, or attachment trauma
  • Families working through neurodivergence or sensory challenges
  • Anyone ready to learn a relational, connected approach to parenting

If your child is already in therapy with Kathryn, she encourages caregivers to participate in parent coaching. You are the expert on your child, and she wants you to receive the help you need to feel confident in meeting your child’s parenting needs. From her perspective, providing good child therapy is always a collaborative process and is most effective when it includes the child’s primary caregivers. Your relationship with your child is the most powerful agent of change.

What You’ll Gain

  • Language and tools that actually work in real-life parenting moments
  • Greater confidence responding to big behaviors
  • A deeper understanding of your child’s nervous system
  • New strategies for co-regulation and emotional safety
  • Support from someone who sees you—not just your parenting struggles

You’re not failing. You’re facing something hard—and we’re here to help.

Looking to Offer Parenting Classes at Your Organization?

In addition to one-on-one coaching, Kathryn offers group parenting classes for schools, preschools, early childhood centers, nonprofits, and community organizations.

Kathryn is a Licensed Clinical Worker, LCSW, and an experienced facilitator who has been offering parenting classes to community organizations for the past 25 years. Certified in Circle of Security®, TBRI®, and Love & Logic®, her classes are designed to help caregivers build stronger, more connected relationships with their children using trauma-informed, attachment-based principles.

Kathryn’s current classes center around bringing the work of Robyn Gobbel, author of the book, Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors https://robyngobbel.com/book/, to parents so they can understand the science of behavior and have the confidence to address concerning behaviors with authentic connection. Parents will leave with knowledge that will help them bring calm to their chaos, regardless of the specific behavior challenge.

Kathryn works with organizations to customize the class format (single session or multi-week series), schedule, and delivery method (in-person or virtual) based on your group’s needs.

Past parenting class partners include:

  • Preschools and early learning centers
  • Faith-based organizations
  • Foster and adoptive family support agencies
  • Community parenting programs

If you’re looking to bring practical, relational parenting education to the families you serve, I’d love to partner with you.
