Services / Adult Psychotherapy
Pat sees adult clients for problems not related to children. She has years of experience and specialized training working with adults on various problems including:
Pat is able to create a safe and relaxed environment to explore problems that keep you from living a fullfilling life. One of the techniques she uses is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Repreocessing). This is a type of therapy that treats problems arising from disturbing life experiences ranging from very serious traumas (war, domestic violence, or auto accidents) to experiences that are upsetting (illnesses or. troubling events in childhood). EMDR is helpful for single incident trauma or complex, multi-incident trauma.
EMDR was originally developed for people with post traumatic stress disorder in the early 80's. It has been studied and developed since then and has many applications beyond PTSD. It can be used to treat depression, anxiety, complex grief reactions and self esteem issues. It can be used to alleviate performance anxiety and help job performance.
EMDR works well with many people because it accesses something in our brains and nervous systems that stimulates self healing. It impacts the ways we process information. Self limiting beliefs that are connected to troubling memories are "reprocessed" and "desensitized." These types of memories are never forgotten but they seem to lose the power they once had over us. This is a very client centered therapy that makes use of our life experiences, our body memories, and our sense of spirituality to bring us a healthier way of living.
"I am trained in a number of counseling methods. But my first priority is listening to you and getting a deep understanding of your need for therapy."
